7 Myths About Your Cotton Pillowcase That You Shouldn’t Believe
Myth #1: Cotton is Great For Your Skin
Nope. Cotton is actually quite damaging to your skin! Cotton produces a lot of friction. This friction has a grinding effect on your skin that irritates and damages it throughout the entire night. Cotton is also highly absorbent. This means that while you sleep, your pillowcase absorbs your skin’s natural oils and moisture leaving you with dried out itchy skin in the morning. And because your skin is so dry it might start overproducing oil leading to clogged pores and blemishes.

Myth #2: Cotton Keeps You Cool
Not quite. When you wear a cotton shirt, yes it keeps you cool because hot air can pass through the fabric away from your body. But when you use a cotton pillowcase it does the exact opposite. The heat from your head passes through your pillowcase and absorbs into the pillow. Your pillow then heats up, and in doing so heats you up, even more, making for a hot and uncomfortable night’s sleep.

Myth #3: Cotton Is The Best For Your Hair
Not a chance, and it’s because of the same reasons as Myth #1. Friction has a grinding effect on your hair, heating it up, weakening it, and causing it to break. And because Cotton absorbs so much moisture it strips your hair of its natural oils and leaves you with tangled, dry brittle hair filled with split ends when you wake up.

Myth #4: Cotton Is Really Soft
Not really. When you run your hand over your Cotton pillowcase, sure it feels soft. But take a closer look at it. If you aren’t near your pillowcase and you happen to be wearing a cotton shirt, look down and take a look. You’ll see tons of little cotton fibers stretching upwards away from the fabric. It’s these little strands that can cause your skin to become very irritated after an entire night of sleep. So when looking at it from afar, yes it can seem soft, but it’s when you look at it closer, you find it’s true scratchy nature.

Myth #5: Cotton Is Clean
This couldn’t be further from the truth. Remember how your cotton pillowcase absorbs the natural oils from your hair and skin. It also absorbs your sweat, saliva, dead skin (this doesn’t get absorbed it becomes trapped) and any lotions or serums you put on before bed. All of that stuff stays built up in your pillowcase creating a bacteria frenzy. This is one of the leading reasons why people wake up with greasy hair, clogged pores, and blemishes on their skin.

Myth #6: Cotton Is Hypoallergenic
NOPE. Remember those little cotton strands that were coming off of your shirt and definitely coming off of your pillowcase. Well, these and the nooks and crannies in cotton are perfect places for allergens such as dust, mold, dead skin, and dust mites to attach to and embed in. So while you’re sleeping on your pillowcase you’re burying your face in a pile of allergens that are causing you to wake up with a runny nose, watery eyes, sneezing fits, and a sore throat.

Myth #7: A Cotton Pillowcase Is The Best Pillowcase You Should Use
We’ve clearly established that this is false. But what’s the best pillowcase you should use? It’s called a Blissy Silk Pillowcase. Here’s why: Blissy uses the highest quality silk available. This silk is incredibly soft and smooth which means it creates very little friction if at all any. It also doesn’t absorb moisture like cotton does. The silk Blissy uses actually bounces heat away from it keeping it and you cool, and because of the way the pillowcase is made, dust mites and allergens can’t attach or embed themselves to it making it hypoallergenic. Blissy will give you beautiful hair, glowing skin, and the best night’s sleep that you’ve had in a long time.
